That being said, the factory exhaust is very restrictive, making for a somewhat muted and disappointing final article. Not what you would expect from a car with such a thoroughbred engine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSheffield-based performance exhaust manufacturer, Cobra Sport, have developed a solution for this in the form of their recently launched Cat-Back exhaust system designed specifically for the first generation facelift V10 model. This new exhaust is precision TIG-welded from T304 stainless steel and is fitted with valves that integrate with the vehicle’s factory configurations. The valves open and close depending on the vehicle's drive mode, so it stays subdued at idle but unleashes the full fury of its thunderous V10 soundtrack when the vehicle is in sport mode.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn the static sound test, Cobra Sport's system is 10db louder than stock at 4,000rpm in sports mode but only 2dB louder with valves shut in standard mode. With zero motorway drone, the new exhaust makes for a significant improvement without ruining the excellent everyday drivability that the R8 is famed for. A noticeable improvement in power distribution higher up the rev range was experienced during testing, thanks to the free-flowing performance exhaust setup.
