Team VUDU Wins The Second Round Of The Time Attack Championship!

A mix around on the podium, however round 2 of the Time Attack Championship saw #TeamVUDU take both first & second place for the second time on the bounce. The day itself proved to be yet another huge learning experience for the whole team, competing not only against the other racers on the track but also against the immense pressure of expectancy following on from our huge success of the previous round.

The Build Up

In a busy and eventful week building up to the Second Round, we were given the bad news that Andy would be unable to compete after the team had failed in an attempt to obtain a suitable engine in time for the weekend. This left our hopes of additional silverware in the hands of fellow VUDU Performance representatives Nick Cook and Ben Copson...a challenge they were more than capable of facing head on.

Workshop manager, Elliot Waller "Bing Bang" worked tirelessly in order to make the necessary changes to the infamous Voodoo car.

The Time Attack Round 2 Championship

The team overcame initial teething problems in the warm up laps, adapting the newly named 'VOODOO BB1' to the circuit which allowed it compete at the very top of its class. For example in the dry, under compression coming through Paddock Hill, we had a small catching issue caused purely by the nature of the our setup in terms of the ride height compressing up and touching.

The ever changing weather conditions played a big part in the lap times on the day, with the heavens opening up just as the drivers were lining up in the pits. This gave the teams no opportunity to adjust the settings on the cars, which meant fewer teams were able to get into their groove due to the high number of red flags raised with cars spinning off the track.

Both our drivers took to the track and set impressive lap times in the warm up...this good form continued into the Championship with both cars achieving impressive results that saw the team come away with another 1st and 2nd place finish on the podium, albeit in a different order to the first round. It was Ben this time who took the Second Round crown with a time of 54.3 seconds, finishing 0.2 of a second in front of fellow VUDU representative Nick in second place.

The Reaction

Ben Copson (1st Place):

"Over the moon! We made a few minor changes to the car, adapting the ride height to find the perfect balance and gain that little extra handling on the front end. The results obviously speak for themselves, we're consistently up there ahead of the field so no complaints from us!

Nick Cook (2nd Place):

"Overall we're ecstatic, Brands Hatch is our away game, to go down the country where a lot of our competitors are local and for us come away with a 1st and 2nd place finish on the podium, you can't ask for anymore. Personally, my mistakes came in places where I could have been a little more composed when coming in off the track and letting the car cool down before rushing out again. But there's no rest, prepping has already begun for the next round and we're obviously not messing about, we're taking this very seriously now."
